People First Language empowers people to distance themselves from a trait or condition they have by preferring phrases such as "a person with diabetes", "people experiencing houselessness", as opposed to identity-first language like "a diabetic", "the homeless"". It is a form of harm reduction in that it allows people to feel safer and be seen as a person rather than the things that may stigmatize them.
Please RSVP and join us on October 24th, from 12-1pm for a free lunch & learn about People First Language.
A light lunch and certificates will be provided for this event.
