A Mary May Indeed!
Thank you all for supporting the fundraising efforts toward the Cumberland County Library and programming at Lilac Place. It was an inspired effort, a stroke of luck and big dipper blessings that made it so Mary Walsh could visit us here in Amherst.
During the afternoon of May 17th we hosted a community circle with Mary, inviting clients of service programming and client centered outreach workers to discuss empowerment, feminism and advocacy. Mary spoke openly of her experience through all the highs and lows of her very large and vocal life, encouraging us all to sit a little taller. In her sharing, she centered back to the power of coming together, sticking together and supporting each other.
The Baptist Church was so hospitable, it was kind of them to allow us in on short notice and allow us to utilize the space, creating such a warm welcome to all that came.
We are so grateful to Tidewater Books for coming from Sackville that evening to sell Mary’s latest book; Brassy Bit of Aging Crumpet. A collection of memoirs; a reflection on a life well lived and a country that both empowered and needed her voice.
It was generous of so many of you to come and buy books and heart warming to see how Mary took the time with each of you to sign them. This was one of her favorite parts of the whole day.
The Lilac Team and volunteers organized in a fury; so delighted to see how much can happen when the team moves supportively together. Thank you ALL for the large efforts to make it happen.
And…Thank you to Jenny Siddal. If you’ve not heard the story of what prompted us to reach out to Mary in the first place, here it is. Jenny mentioned what an inspiration Mary and her work have been in her sharing her voice and talents. Renee reached out to Mary, who happened to be filming in Halifax and all things aligned! You can read more about it on the Saltwire article HERE!
Here’s to lifting each other up & making moves to make it happen.
